For over a year, I'd driven past Siegfried's on my way into the office without realizing it was a German-style delicatessen. My favorite German food tends to favor the happy world of Haribo, but when a friend suggested that we meet for lunch at Siegfried's Delicatessen, warning that it was very unlikely that I would find my typical vegetarian fare, I figured a little adventure is a good thing.
We decided to meet at 1 p.m. I arrived first and was pleased to see that there were still multiple unoccupied tables. Soon after my friend and his co-worker who had suggested Siegfried's in the first place arrived. The only real vegetarian option on the menu was a sandwich and I didn't come all this way just to play it safe. So I went with the $6.99 daily special, which was two German Wieners with two sides. I opted for the fried potatoes and a cucumber-tomato salad because I couldn't talk myself into the Spaetzle.
As I sat down I was a little nervous about my choices but was pleasantly surprised by how good it all tasted. It was a heavier meal than I'd traditionally eat, but it wasn't nearly as greasy as I feared it would be. I'd certainly recommend Siegfried's to anyone who asks.
