Art of any caliber can start in a coffee shop and it's an exciting process to watch and take part in. Kat Martin, a local artist and painter, said that ''it's so inspiring to work amongst other up and coming artists while creating your own masterpieces with your favorite cup of Joe.'' Some of those up and coming artists in your local coffee shop could be anybody. J.K. Rowling, too poor to pay her heat bills, began working on a book about a boy wizard at her local coffee shop, n... Coffee shops aren't typically known for their friendly baristas, so when the IN staff visited Diva's Cupcakes & Coffee, we were surprised to be warmly greeted as we walked in the door. In certain situations this could have been a bit smothering, but Diva's staff was attentive not annoying. This first impression practically guaranteed that we'd leave enjoying our experience. For lunch, I went for the delicious sounding Summer Strawberry Salad ($7.55), Daisy picked the Mediterra... Dancing Crane Imports recently became host to Cafe Solstice, a calm-inducing cafe that allows diners to sit down and chat over fresh beverages and wonderful organic meals. Shopping at Dancing Crane is a mother-daughter tradition for my sister, mom and I, so I took them along to try Cafe Solstice. My mom tried the Solstice Tacos ($7) and Summer and I split the Hummus n' Olive sandwich ($6.75) and the Turkey n' Pesto sandwich ($7.25). Both dishes came accompanied with a fresh s... Read More

Dessert of the Week: Vanilla Bean Cheesecake$3.95, Coffee Garden, 898 E. 900 SouthThe first time I went to Coffee Garden this week, I just drooled over all their delicious-looking desserts. The second time, I had to succumb and order a Vanilla Bean Cheesecake with my Iced Chai. It was a perfect breakfast choice; light, with a flavor that was delicate and intense but not overly sweet. The single tart blackberry on top gave it a welcome little kick. The cheesecake is made in-h... Read More

For at least a week, I'd been nursing curry cravings. When my editor suggested Star of India as my remedy, I couldn't help but feel a little nostalgic, because when life was seemingly fairer the Star of India restaurant was located half a block away from where I live. Sadly, a fire in the building forced its way between me and my curry habits. Since their relocation, I had not taken advantage of their afternoon buffet. I was happy to find Star of India's buffet ($9.95) offere... Read More

I knew I would like Rusted Sun Pizzeria as soon as we walked into the quaint restaurant. The smell of fresh pizza was intoxicating and I was excited to sample the menu. The server suggested a 12-inch pizza with half Round Up and half Pesto Chicken ($15.25). We took her suggestion. While we waited, we ate the recommended Killer Cheese Dip ($7.5), an appetizer our server said would ''melt into a calzone.'' She was absolutely right. It was an uncharacteristically pleasant afternoon, so the IN staff headed
to Lucky 13 to sample their deep fried treats, delicious burgers and adult

lackadaisical side, but we were all impressed by the variety of the menu
particularly that a bar would offer vegetarian options along with its
massive traditional meaty burgers.

If I worked near Smile Cafe, I would probably go there quite regularly. It’s located in the office building opposite the downtown library and has a good range of appetizing breakfast and lunch items. For breakfast, you can choose traditional items such as ham or bacon, cheese and eggs ($2.89), potato or egg burritos ($2.99), omelets ($2.99) or pancakes ($2.99). Dessert of the Week: Maple ''Bacon'' CupcakeCakewalk Vegan Bakery and Grocery, 434 S. 900 East in Salt Lake CityTwo hot food trends are cupcakes and bacon. Naturally, the two have been combined to make the ultimate treat as cupcake-makers are thinking outside of the Betty Crocker box and vegan bakers are staying up on the trends. My mum was once told by a doctor that he always ate dessert first, just in case he had to leave the table on call part-way through the meal. She taught us that this is an excellent thing to do whenever possible, and I wholeheartedly agree. To that end, I would like to talk about dessert at Ruth's Diner first, because it was completely delicious and it would be a pity if anyone visited and did not partake.
